Business Intelligence Application Solutions

BMA application solutions address the vital information and analysis needs of management - from the CEO's office through each business area, such as Finance, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, Production & Distribution.

Our solutions are based on our standard applications but are tailored to your specific needs. We design your applications to reflect your business structure, business processes and management style. Also, when we design your applications, we ensure that they are completely integrated and tested so that you have "only one version of the truth".

These solutions include critical management applications such as planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, performance management, key performance indicator (KPI) reporting, customer and product profitability analysis, sales analysis, capacity planning, headcount analysis and planning, and analytical business intelligence models.

All of our applications can have a planning or modelling component that allows the user to test alternative actions, scenarios and risk factors so that decisions can be more soundly based.

Because of the power and speed of the underlying software, all of our applications deliver results within seconds - even when there has been a major data update or where there are billions of calculations involved before a result is delivered.

BMA application solutions provide extremely flexible and powerful analysis and reporting facilities - even across different applications. You can "drill-down" or "mine" this rich body of business knowledge to discover new patterns and opportunities that can be turned into real value for your organisation. Most importantly, our consultants can design your own "causal paths" for "drill down". This helps you to find the key reasons for unexpected results so that the right action can be taken. Reporting flexibility is built in so that each user can instantly get the information they need, in exactly the form they want it.

We have provided a list of some of BMA's application solutions below. Some of these have brief, outline descriptions and for others we have simply provided the application name. If you want more information on how we can assist you please fill in our enquiry form.

Our application solutions include the following:

The CEO's Office

Strategic Planning
This brings together analysed information from other BMA applications (including history and forecasts), external economic, demographic and financial statistics and forecasts to enable the strategic planner to model alternative scenarios. This includes risk assessment and enables the planner to test assumptions about the market and competition, internal initiatives, cost factors, investments, and factors associated with the economic and political environment.

KPI's and Performance Management
Whatever the performance management framework adopted by the firm, this application provides performance reports, alerts and drill down analyses for each component of your framework. This includes, where applicable, drill down to causes. Most importantly, the application is linked to the planning applications so that alternative action scenarios can be assessed.

P&L and Balance Sheet Analysis Reports
Top level reporting framework that presents only key information and ratios and higlights areas of concern for each area of the business. Where relevant, can also show important external data such as share price movements. Provides facilities to draw on more detailed reports and information bearing on areas of concern, and to enter comments and messages for responsible executives.

Balanced Scorecard
BMA Performance Advantage provides all the facilities and capabilities you require to manage the planning, implementation and monitoring of strategic performance using a balanced scorecard framework. Includes calculation and reporting of key performance measures and KPIs.

Business Risk Analysis

Finance

Financial and Management Reporting
This a comprehensive analytical framework for P&L and Balance Sheet reporting that can integrate with budgeting and planning models. The base financial data mirrors that in your General Ledger or ERP system; but provides complete flexibility in reporting and consolidation. The user can create new, special purpose consolidation hierarchies that are immediately available for reporting. Financial ratios and KPIs can be included in the model so that these are available in any report.

Enterprise, Corporate and Business Unit Budgeting and Planning
The complete budgeting and planning framework. It builds in your processes, places control in the hands of the budget or planning manager, tracks each responsibility unit for its contribution, enables two-way communication with the planning manager. It also provides reports on the processes, and automatically calculates, consolidates and reports to each responsible participant. Both "bottom up" and "top down" methods are catered for. New top level results are ready within seconds of new data being input. So, you can do as many budget versions as you like without worrying about huge recalculation times.

Board and Senior Management Reporting
A management reporting framework, that is comprehensive, extremely fast and flexible, and is deliverable over the corporate network or intranet browser. Most reports can be prepared within a few minutes by an analyst with limited training. There is no dependence on IT staff to manage and deliver reports.

KPI and Performance Management and Measurement
Pulls all the information together to calculate, present and analyse Key Performance Indicators against targets. Enables evaluation of effects of alternative scenarios on performance.

Cash Flow Forecasting
Based on data and information from other BMA applications and your assumptions, calculates future cash flow and its impacts on your business.

Feasibility Studies
Models for major projects that calculate future cash flows based on assumptions about project structure, ownership, funding, prices, and other internal and external factors. Includes full risk analysis for key assumptions.

Business Modelling

Activity Based Costing and other Cost Models
This application includes a model that assigns costs to activities for value chain analysis and reporting. The application has "what if" facilities that enable testing the effects of, for example, altering the cost base of activities, eliminating non-contributing activities, or restructuring processes for greater efficiency or effectiveness.

Tax Planning and Analysis

Debtor Management & Planning

Marketing and Sales

Product & Customer Profitability
Provides the means to determine which products, product groups, customers and customer segments are the most profitable and which are not contributing. This can be looked at for any time period, geographical area, etc. It is also possible to determine whether particular products are profit contributers in some customer groups but not in others. This is based on a profitability model that assigns appropriate revenues and costs to each product and customer. The assignment of costs is the most critical component of the model and must be designed well to ensure that the model does not lead to wrong conclusions or decisions. Revenue, costs and profit reconcile with the GL. The model can be extended to calculate brand value and test scenarios for brand development.

Sales Analysis
Sales and gross profit analysis by product, customer and time. May also provide analysis by geographical area, customer type or segment, customer ownership group, product characteristic. May also include scenario testing, other "what if" modelling, forecasting and risk analysis. Typically, product detail down to SKU level.

Customer Gains & Losses
The number and value of customers gained, lost or at risk can be analysed within customer segments or groups, geographical or sales territories, and any time period. The customer value can be measured by revenue or profit contribution. For customers gained, target estimates of value can be entered and compared with later actuals. Gains and losses can also be tracked over the course of promotional campaigns.

Merchandising Analysis
This application is based on data from retail store visits to assess displays, promotions, stocks, etc and determine the extent to which the retailer is complying with agreements / planograms.

Scandata Analysis
Flexible and powerful analysis of retail data from point of sale terminals. This can be analysed in conjunction with data on promotion, advertising and other marketing / merchandising campaigns. For example, the analyst can assess the longer term impact of price promotions on market share and profitability, track performance over a promotional campaign, and analyse competitor behaviour.

Sales Representative Performance
Provides a comprehensive analysis of sales representative performance - over time and against targets. The application can also be used to assess the value of each representative, calculate remuneration, and test alternative reward models. This brings together information from other marketing and sales analysis applications, and CRM systems or call records. Targets for each representative (by customer or customer group if required) can be entered and compared with actual performance.

Competitor Analysis
Provides an analytical framework for assessing competitor performance across product categories, customer segments, and geographic areas (or any other key dimension). The application can also provide competitive scenario testing (eg. future new competitors, changes in competitive product lineup, changes in pricing). The application can draw data from Government and industry statistical sources, your own marketing and sales data, and market research surveys.

Manufacturing and Distribution

Capacity Planning
Longer-term model of supply constraints based on current and planned capacity and forecasts of demand. Can include multiple plant / facilities locations and process components within plants. The user can test alternative load balancing scenarios.

Production Planning and Management

Inventory Planning and Management
Inventory reporting, costing and planning model. Enables analysis of key inventory measures including stockturns, weeks of stock, unit costs, total holding costs, unit holding costs, purchase order delivery cycle times, suggested order quantities, etc. by product source, warehouse, product and time. Future deliveries and costs can be modelled under different scenarios.

Product Costing
Provides a cost model for each individual product with line, group, category and brand consolidations of SKU's. This can be analysed by plant, warehouse or geographical region. The model allows for forecasts of costs based on individual parameter inputs (eg. raw material unit costs, labour costs, plant costs, etc.).

Asset & Depreciation Analysis
Comprehensive Asset analysis and planning model. Includes ongoing, new and retiring assets by ownership, time period, location, type and function. Actual and calculated data (eg. forecast, scenarios and calculated from actuals) includes original cost, lifetime cost, salvage values, retirement date, depreciation, maintenance costs, asset contribution value. "What if" scenario testing in real time (eg. Extension of useful life, impact of changes to salvage value, impact on asset contribution of a change in use, etc.)

Human Resource Management

Remuneration Management & Budgeting Models
Provides reporting, budgeting, planning and modelling for a wide range of purposes. These purposes include enterprise remuneration planning, enterprise pay negotiations, contract negotiations, strategic planning, annual budgeting and short term forecasting. Each individual's remuneration details and conditions are available. This includes award and / or basis of employment, applicable grade or pay group, salary, wages, overtime car / car allowance, expense account, performance pay, superannuation, other non-salary benefits, income taxation, FBT, standard hours of work, actual hours of work, start date, end date, next review date, etc. Also available are details of awards, contracts, etc. All of this information is available by time period and employee details can be summarised by team, business unit, whole organisation or any other grouping of employees. The models allow for income tax and FBT calculations, total cost to the organisation, various index calculations, costs to the organisation of changes affecting many employees (eg. award changes, % pay increases, etc.), and other scenario testing or forecasting calculations.

Training & Development Analysis

OH&S Incident Analysis and Costing
This provides performance reporting and analysis for Occupational Health and Safety, Work Cover Reporting, insurance premium impacts, and costs of safety or occupational health incidents. The information is analysable and reportable by category of employment (Full time, part time, casual, FTE, etc), skill category, salary grade, team, business unit, location, process or activity, time period. The analyst or manager can create many scenarios to test alternate resource allocations or organisational structures. This application links with, and provides input to Remuneration Management.
